Gearing up for the Angola Rodeo
It's time to start thinking about a trip to Angola prison in April for
the Angola Rodeo.
NIU Students MUST be a member in good standing of a student chapter of the ACA
to participate in the event.
The rodeo is a great opportunity to learn about prisons and to see how
programming can work. Here's a summary of a recent tour of Angola
A number of ACA student chapter members have expressed an interest in
the tour, so we are exploring the feasability of going down. Unfortunely,
the economy and increased prices have pushed the costs up dramatically
from previous years. Although we can likely lower the costs listed
below a bit, these are the current prices to provide a ballpark estimate:
--Airfare (Northwest, 1-stop from Chicago, Depart: April 16; Return: april 19
$260 (includes tax)(as of Jan 31--this could change)
--Lodging (St Francis/Best Western, three nights)
$261 for three nights (half if sharing a room)
--Rodeo ticket: $10
--Food (about $15 per day)
$45 (excludes airport meals, drinks)
--Car rental: Depending on size and how many go
Between $330 (mini-van holding six) (about $50 each if six go)
Total cost is in the $500-$550 range. Even if sharing a room, and with some reduced
prices, it will likely be in the $500 to $650 range. Airfare will vary
depending on your location. Again, air fares may drop, lodgings can
vary with a cheap motel in Baton Rouge, and tripling up/sharing a bed
in the hotel can cut costs, but this is a rough estimate.
